This past Wednesday, May 9,2018 a driver in Riverside, New York lost control of their car. Pictures of the incident have been circling local social media pages. At about noon an Audi A8 sedan crashed through the windows of Fastrac. The accident was all human error as the driver hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brake when parking.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, Painted Post Fire Department, and Painted Post Police Department responded to the scene. Bystanders behind and around the building reported to the responding officers hearing a loud bang and glass shattering as the car rammed through. Freshman, Sarah Buman said “If I were in the building I would run as fast as I could in the opposite direction.” Painted Post Fire Cheif Joe Button reported there were no injuries sustained during the accident and that no charges were pressed against the driver, whose name has not been released.
Luckily, there were no human injuries the Fastrac building suffered damage. Two of the front window panels were completely shattered. Crews have since removed all the debris and boarded up the windows till they can be fixed. The Fastrac was scheduled to open Wednesday later in the evening.
