By: Jaedyne Filkins  Tattoos and piercings are two great forms of body art. There’s so many different styles of tattoos as well as piercings. There are 5 different types of piercings,  Ear, Face, Genital, Lip,Oral, and Surface. Almost any part of the body can be pierced but it is always important to consider the individual’s  anatomy before getting a piercing.

It is also important to think about the  lifestyle, a lot of people get piercings done in high school because they think it’s the hottest new trend. However sometimes they can become a problem. Simple things such as clothing and work dress codes can cause problems with certain body piercings. Many workplaces do not allow facial piercings and if you work in a dangerous environment certain body piercings pose a health risk. Most of these issues can be overcome with careful piercing placement and the right jewelry but it is always better to be safe than sorry!

Tattoos and piercings are a great way to show art. Angel Carl, an 11th grader here at CPP, says, “I think they’re awesome, not everyone has them so people can be different. I have a lip piercing. Tattoos can express art in so many ways, and I just love the idea of them.”

Tattoos can be a great way to express yourself through art! However, they are permanent, very permanent and unless students want to pay thousands of dollars to pay for the removal of them, I suggest students wait until they know for sure what they want, and make sure to have them professionally done.

Anyone can express themselves, rather it’s with tattoos or piercings. However, people should think before getting something done. Some tattoos or piercings may become distracting or offensive to others. Even though body art , is an expressive art, certain piercings and tattoos should be covered or not discussed in school or a workplace.

I appreciate how you mentioned that it’s important to really think about their choice before they officially go through with it. This form of expression should be very special but not offensive like you said. If I ever get a body piercing or a tattoo I think I’ll have to think about it for at least a year before I get something.
